50 Years Since Expo '67 - Time to Hear from Young Canadians Again

Posted on: March 30th, 2017

Experiences Canada has announced four cities and dates for their Canada 150&Me regional youth forums.  Regional youth forums will be held in Vancouver April 6, 2017; Montreal, April 11; Halifax, May 16; and Winnipeg, May 25.

Canada 150&Me is a national competition for youth between the ages of 14-19.  One hundred fifty participants selected will be travelling to one of four regional cities for an exciting week of educational, cultural and community activities. They will be joined by like-minded youth from host cities. Each regional event will be themed on one of the broader topics young people have identified as the most important.

“As much as Canada’s Centennial in 1967 belonged to an entire generation of Canadians, 2017 belongs to this generation,” says Deborah Morrison, President of Experiences Canada. “The goal of Canada 150&Me is to involve thousands of young Canadians in a conversation about Canada’s future, encouraging young people to take a leadership role in celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday.

“Milestones are a great opportunity not just to look back at where we’ve come from, but also where we are heading.  And there are lots of opportunities to do just that next year.  What a great time to be young and passionate about a wide range of issues. Here is an opportunity to see another part of Canada, to have a voice and be an agent for change. This project will give young people a little bit of context, experience and inspiration,” concludes Morrison.

Canada 150&Me starts by inviting youth ages 14-19 to answer the simple question, “What is Canada’s greatest challenge or opportunity facing your generation?”

Youth can reply online using whatever creative media they choose – a written statement, a video, music or visual art piece – in three simple steps:

1.            Register their interest at www.experiencescanada.ca/150
2.            Upload their answer to the challenge question in a file of their choosing
3.            Provide a short bio.
